As societies, we have changed our food system many times and we can change it again, this time to encourage compassionate and ecological ways of raising livestock. As numerous recent studies demonstrate, this does not mean we’ll all starve; to the contrary, large numbers of small-scale agricultural operations can produce more and healthier food than can small numbers of huge farms.
